“Reflections of the Lord’s Supper”

By: Greg Campbell

“It was a night like no other night.” These words are spoken by John the Evangelist describing the Lord’s Supper to his young scribe Papius in one of the opening lines of the play “Reflections of the Lord’s Supper”. Jesus is preparing for his betrayal, arrest, flogging and crucifixion – things of which Jesus knows must come to pass. In Luke 22:15 &16 we find these words of Jesus, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God." (NIV) As we look at scripture and reflect back on Jesus’ teaching of the disciples we know that Jesus had been preparing them for his leaving. The Last Supper was the culmination of that teaching, his love for his disciples, celebrating the “Passover” and ushering in the “New Covenant.”

Reflections of the Lord’s Supper brings each person into that most intimate moment with Jesus and His disciples as they share a time together for fellowship, servitude and prayer. We know from scripture, the disciples came from a variety of backgrounds and vocations. We also know that a few of the disciples had a more intimate role with Christ during his ministry. This presentation brings out the various reasons why each disciple chose to follow Jesus and give Him their all – even their own deaths.

Communion is a most sacred time in our worship. It is a time that we, over 2000 years later, can reflect upon that same teaching, fellowship and prayer. Jesus gives us the instructions to share in the cup and the loaf as He did for his early disciples. We each come from a variety of backgrounds and vocations. We are each charged with the teachings of Jesus and we each share in his death. Each one of us should realize the significance of that “night to remember” as we worship our King and partake with him in his body and blood.

Reflections of the Lord’s Supper brings the scripture to life as the men of Solid Rock Christian Church portray Christ and His disciples, bringing each character to life as scripture tells us of that night. The play is intertwined with music that worships the King, dialogue with Jesus and His disciples, an account of the events of the night by John the Evangelist and communion with all audience members.

This is a wonderful opportunity too for each one of us to relive that night, to feel the passion that Christ had, not only for His disciple, but for each one of us as well. You will hear an account by each disciple as to why they decided to give Jesus their all. You will hear what tradition has to say about how the disciples were martyred for their beliefs. It is a most moving presentation.

After the presentation, there will be a sample of an authentic Passover (Seder) meal for you to try-much like what Jesus and His disciples had that night. The play will be presented on the Thursday evening before Resurrection Day, as it was with the original Lord’s Supper. There will be two presentations, one at 6:00 pm and then again at 8:00 pm. We are asking that you request free tickets for whichever presentation you would like to attend, as seating is limited. You can get tickets by simply asking Craig or Greg.

We encourage everybody to come and share in this wonderful event, as it will be a night like no other night, and hopefully a night that you will remember like no other night.
